Ch. Matu Ram was born in the year 1866 at village Sanghi in district Rohtak in Haryana. His father, Ch. Bakhtawar Singh, was a ‘zaildar’. Ch. Matu ram had to discontinue his studies after passing the primary school examination. His father died when he was 30 years at age. Being the eldest child, the responsibility of the family head fell on his shoulders.
